Coralleus Lighting Fixture

From The Lakes to the Seas, humans have always been drawn to water's idyllic features. We ourselves are bodies of water, and thus, it is only natural that it feels like home for so many. Beyond its soothing and healing properties, water is also an excellent metaphor for reflection. As we pass through life, we must ebb and flow like the waves of these earthly bodies and embrace the cycles of change.

Designed for the 2024 RBT Student Lighting Design Competition, Coralleus, a combination of "coral" and "alleus" or "-eus," is a new innovative wall sconce mystically resembling coral, characterized by the vibrant colors and intricate structures found in coral reefs. Invoking the peaceful ways of the ocean’s many reefs, the Coralleus provides that little soothing piece of the big blue in even the most landlocked of locations. Designed for pediatric healthcare spaces, this calming, cool-colored light utilizes the many hues of ocean water to provide a relaxing and peaceful environment in a space that can be very stressful for young patients.

Offering ambient and task lighting options, Coralleus also adds a kinetics level to any office space. By integrating bubbling water in the glass core orbs lit by LED bars, the moving water caustics reflect and bounce off the surrounding walls, providing a unique and ever-changing visual spectacle for the wandering eyes of patients of any age.
